Mating goannas, koalas snoozing in backyard mulberry trees and sightings of elusive short-beaked echidnas are just some of more than 13,000 Eyre Peninsula citizen science observations being celebrated on April 13 as part of Citizen Science Day.

Farmers, Landcare and community group members and nature enthusiasts are warmly welcomed to three open information sessions on the endangered Eyre Peninsula Blue Gum Woodlands to be held during April at Wangary, Yallunda Flat and Cleve. The free information sessions will focus on the significance of the woodlands, why they are in decline and most importantly how people can help with individual restoration efforts.

A number of burns are planned around Eyre Peninsula by the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) as part of the autumn prescribed burn program. Burns are planned for Lincoln National Park, Venus Bay Conservation Reserve, Bascombe Well Conservation Park and Pinkawillinie Conservation Park, as well as private land north of Tulka.

A burst of yellow wattle blossom has now become a part of Tumby Bay's growing street art scene. The towns newest painting by talented local artist Danica Gates showcases the endangered Whibley’s wattle (Acacia whibleyana), a threatened flora species only found around Tumby Bay and nowhere else in the world.

Local resident Rebekah Davenport has been appointed Natural Resources Officer on the eastern Eyre Peninsula, and is already well into the summer weed control program as part of her new role.
